4th July is usually something we Brits watch being celebrated in American movies. However today is the first day that bars and restaurants are opening up again for business here in the UK… so we have a reason to celebrate as well!

The Walkie Talkie (the highrise on the far right) is open again for tourists, meaning I get to finally go up to their magnificent viewing deck that I have wanted to for so long. I’m not sure how easy it will be to get a ticket… however having very little overseas tourists right now will no doubt mean there is less demand.

But until then I hope you enjoy the distant view of it through the trees on the Southbank of the River Thames, and find a way to celebrate the weekend whether you’re in the States or elsewhere in the world.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. “very little tourists”? “Hobbits”? Big ones might fit in that building too. Actually, as a US ciitzen I don’t feel like there is too much to celebrate this July 4 given my government’s performance as of late.

    1. Haha don’t make me self conscious about my wording, please πŸ˜€

And I guess you’re right, but I don’t think too many people will be celebrating national holidays this year as much as they usually would… but any excuse to get hyped up about something is a good thing I am sure.

      1. No, you write very well, and I like your descriptions of different scenes. I make lots of mistakes writing, so I really shouldn’t point out those of others. but I found yours very funny, i.e., “little people” instead of “few people”.

      2. Thank you for the complement! I do like to think I am improving with every post, and blogging certainly helps to sharpen our skills πŸ™‚ and I did chuckle once you pointed it out πŸ˜€

Cheers William, and I hope you are having a great week.

      3. Thanks! I agree that a routine of writing is a great way to improve. Reading part of my blog post “Encounters with Strangers on the Road” at the Writers’ Group summer meeting here this evening. Curious as to the reactions if any.

    1. Just in time for summer (although the last week or so has been miserable here)… I hope you are having a great summer too where you are!

  2. Thank you! Be careful. . . the opening of bars and restaurants here (in some states) seems to have led to a massive uptick in cases and some states are closing them down again. Stay healthy and safe!

    1. I was worried about that, but from what I have heard today it seems places aren’t as busy as expected… I guess some people are reluctant to get out right now. So we will see.

Thank you and stay healthy and safe too!

  3. Interesting that bars and restaurants are reopening in the UK; they’ve reopened about a month ago in the US, and we’ve seen a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases again. I would definitely be cautious going out for drinks; if you can do takeaway, that would be best! Thanks for the Fourth of July sentiment, especially for Americans like me!

    1. Enjoy the day Rebecca!! As I am typing this I am hearing fireworks outside… I don’t know if it is Americans celebrating 4th July or British celebrating being able to go out again haha.

From what I have heard today from people, it hasn’t been that busy in bars or pubs… so maybe people are reluctant to go out and will hopefully keep the number of cases down. We will see. Thank you for the comment and have a lovely weekend!!

    1. It has one of the best viewing platforms in London!! It is a must visit (even though I haven’t been myself yet) πŸ˜€

  4. This 4th is like none other, many are waiting for November to liberate ourselves from
this administration. Unfortunately who know when Americans will be allowed access to other countries.
Your picture is smashing, will be looking forward to a rooftop view soon. Take care, be safe.

    1. I hope the USA (and the world) will get the result it wants come November…. but I really don’t know what will happen… we will have to see and be hopeful.

Thank you for the kind words regarding the picture, stay safe and have a lovely weekend!

    1. Haha well it probably is seen as that usually, but 2020 is now an exception! Most Brits know Independence Day as the time Will Smith fought off aliens anyway πŸ˜‰

    1. Hey! Thanks for reading. I have an ‘Introduce Yourself’ section at the top of my site if you wish to promote your blog there! Lots of bloggers to discover too πŸ™‚
