I didn’t know too much about Brisbane when I arrived. But what I now know is that this was probably my favourite chapter in all of Australia.
It was everything about the city. The perfect size to have everything I needed and not get bored. It isn’t coastal, however we had the Southbank with a man made beach for when a chill in the sun was necessary. It was a great area for bars and restaurants as well as being adjacent to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
It was big enough to have many events, and every day was a chance to see something different. This time round a huge rubber duck decided to make an appearance, an advert for ‘Australia’s biggest duck race’ for Cancer Research.
The city was beautiful. I had lost count of how many times I crossed the winding Brisbane River- known locally as the brown snake- to see the city skyline in all it’s glory. A free City Hopper ferry can be taken down the river to various stops within the city centre, useful for tourists and commuters alike to get around.
And of course the sunsets. I certainly miss watching that sunrise and sunset glistening off the buildings nearby, whether I was starting work early or finishing late at night. And only wearing tshirt, shorts and flip flops… it was a more laidback city compared to Sydney and Melbourne and often gets labeled as ‘a big country town’. A reason I felt comfortable walking through the CBD as if I just got back from the beach.
I went from a Brisbane summer right into a Melbourne winter too, meaning I haven’t seen the sun anywhere close to how much I did here. However looking back at these shots helps a lot, and I can almost feel the humidy again. It sounds strange to say, but it is another thing I miss just because I attach it to my time here.
I know I have readers from Brisbane, say hey if you are and I have a lot more shots to come from Queensland’s capital!

I like Brisbane too and been there so many times more than any other Cities in OZ. But have you been to Perth? I am wondering which is better to live in Brisbane or Perth?

I didn’t get to visit unfortunately Vinneve 😦 However I have only heard great things about Perth, and I know a couple of people that live there. And with it being a similar size to Brisbane, I feel it would have the same kind of smaller city vibe which I like. The only thing for me is that is is pretty isolated compared to the rest of Australia, but saying that West Australia looks naturally stunning.

I actually liked Perth more than Brisbane or Melbourne or any other Cities in Australia. I thought it’s bigger because it has a desert and some weird nature. Check the Pinnacles. Unfortunately, it’s because of it’s farther away from the rest of OZ and NZ so it’s expensive to go there from NZ and 7hrs by plane. Where’s your next adventure?

Oh wow that looks amazing, just checked the Pinnacles out! West Australia seems incredible, and you’re right it is so far away and less populated than the east coast. I really should go back some time and do the west coast.
I am now in London! I have been up and down the UK quite a bit and also to Berlin for a few days, so I am about to upload these posts. I hope you enjoy them 🙂

My home town. Glad you enjoyed it. Brisbane doesn’t get the popularity of the Sydney/Melbourne but it has its own passion.

It does have a lot of pride and passion, I could sense that when I was there. Loved my time there and only have good memories of your home city 🙂

I’m currently in Ingham! Making my way down the east coast. This is making me so excited for Brisbane! 😊

Just looked at where that is on the map, Townsville/Magnetic Island is the next big stop by the looks of things! I was a little further south in Ayr for my farmwork. I hope you have a great time travelling down the east coast, so many great stops and you will love Brisbane I am sure!

Yes I have family who live in Ingham, luckily for me. It has some absolutely beautiful places nearby (Wallaman Falls is the biggest single drop waterfall in Australia!) but it’s not really a backpacker place.

I just googled it, looks beautiful! I am getting too old to want to be classed as a backpacker anyways 😉 haha

It truly is a great place to live! Upwards of 280 days (although feels like more) a year of sunshine I don’t think anyone can complain
