My Australian Journey #16: A jailed mouse, a confused dog and a path to infinity

For a fairly quiet city, Newcastle has its fair share of street art. I found some amusing pieces on my walks through the streets.

This one confused me as I thought the speech bubble was a part of the art. Now I think it was added later on. I would still love to know what the dog is thinking though… Any thoughts?

And this mouse in a little jail, not sure the crime but he doesn’t look happy. The artist made great use of the electric box-thing in the street, as these can look very dreary indeed. Street art can give new life and a story to these and for that I appreciate this work.

And as I mentioned in my last post, the weather was absolutely perfect. I couldn’t leave without having a long walk down to the ocean and I knew I wouldn’t be the only one, yet it was still a very tranquil experience. I love the shot below, the pier was incredibly long and had warnings to stay away in rough seas. From this angle it looks to go on forever, the people walking into infinity as the path fades into a dot on the horizon.

I really like Newcastle, the quiet streets and sounds of nature really had me relaxed, and also had me deep in thought much of the time. I remember being in the very spot above and thinking of many different things. Being away from home and my family for so long, having incredible memories that I will remember forever from my trips, where I am now and where I want to be. The crazy whirlwind of thoughts that is solo travel. Sometimes it is hard to do this in a big city, my focus then being not getting run over, getting to work on time through the endless streams of tourists and not suffocating on the busy public transport on route. The thinking is much more on the spot, the here and now. But we all need to think ahead, into the distance and to the horizon for some much needed perspective and development. This trip was great for some precious alone time actually away from big crowds, and this is why I love smaller cities.

  1. I just wanted to comment, that you have a real gift of “packaging” your stories in a format, which is just the right size to read carefully, not scrolling through the content, and to pay attention to details. Always enjoy them. And the Instagram as well 🙂

    • Thank you so much! I do try to be here daily, and sometimes it is difficult which is why my posts tend to be on the shorter side. But I would prefer that if it means I can be here a lot more regularly!

Thank you for the very kind words, I greatly appreciate them. I hope you’re having a great weekend 🙂
