Berlin, I am coming for you September 10th!

So, I have made my first actual plan after my Working Holiday Visa expires in September. I will only be in the UK for a short while before catching a flight to Berlin to see Muse live at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. This will be the 6th time I’ve see them perform and I am just as excited as ever.

I have seen fan footage of the gigs whilst they are in the States and it looks incredible. They always seem to put on an amazing show with new surprises each and every time. For this reason getting a ticket was a no brainer for me. I don’t want to regret not seeing this tour at all.

I have posted before about my obsession with them. You can read about my last Muse gigs here, they span from 2006- 2017, and soon to be 2019. 13 years of Muse gigs!!! Time can be a very scary thing. And I would have went to a hell of a lot more if I could, they are a band I cannot get bored of and I am really grateful for them being such an inspiration in my life.

If any readers from Germany are reading this, hello to you! Any advice as to what to do whilst I am there would be greatly appreciated. I have to limit myself to Berlin though as I am unsure how long I will be there, probably a weekend. I cannot wait though as it is a country and city I have wanted to visit for a long time, hence why I chose this destination on the European tour.

Have you ever been to Berlin? What were your thoughts? I would love to hear from anyone about your experience and just posting about it is getting me hyped up.

  2. Sam, you’ll need more than a weekend to do Berlin justice. When I go somewhere I’ve not been before, I get a ticket for one of those hop on – hop off buses. First, I do the entire tour on the bus, second I get off and back on to visit the sights I want to see. The tickets are generally valid for 24 hours so you can also use them the following day. A river trip is also a good way of seeing Berlin’s fabulous architecture old and new.

    1. I can imagine. I will see how long I can stay there for, especially considering one evening will be at the concert. A bus tour would be a good option if I am not there long, and will consider the river trip too. Thank you Sheree!

  4. I’ve always wanted to go to Germany. I will have to live vicariously through you. Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, any old Cathedrals, and if there is a battlefield park or memorial. Congratulations! I hope you enjoy.

Berlin, it was so cold by the time I was there (beginning december), be careful on using credit cards or debit cards, they rarely accept other than cash, free wifi spots are not easy to get (weird stuff I found out there, considering I had the idea Germany was the most technological country worldwide), the best part of Berlin is their people, soooo kind, and everybody speaks perfect English =)

  10. I went to Berlin when the wall was coming down in 1989, and I visited again 20 years later. It was a different place! When the wall was dismantled, we took a train trip into the former Eastern Germany and it was like steeping back in time. 20 years later all the cool stuff is happening in Eastern Berlin. Muse is great – they hail from Devon which I also count as home 🙂

    1. Wow that must have been pretty surreal to see. And then to revisit some time later! What an experience. It is making me excited to visit even more, although I couldn’t compare it to being there in 1989. The year I was born too.

      And yep, very proud Muse are one of our own. But I am from the opposite end of the country, despite my parents living in Plymouth whilst my mother was pregnant. Jealous of anyone from Devon! Haha.

  13. I really enjoyed check point charlie and wandering from east to west. I was there a long time ago but the difference was stark in places. My kids really liked the Reichstag.

  14. Berlin is a fantastic city, one of my favourites in Europe. It’s super bike friendly so I’d recommend a bike tour if you get the chance. The Topography of Terror museum is really good and the DDR Museum is also worth checking out. I thought the Checkpoint Charlie museum (and area as a whole) was a big disappointment, you probably have to see it but I’d skip the museum.
    On Sunday’s there’s a huge flea market that is cool if that floats your boat. Additionally there’s loads of really good beer gardens / pubs dotted about the city. The nightlife is great.

  15. Hi, it really depends what you are interested in. I am from Berlin and there are loads of interesting places to visit. It is full of history and most of the sights are in walking distance in the city center. So I would just walk around to be honest. A tip from me would be to go and see the Reichstag. If you book in advance you can get into the Reichstag for free on the top of the dome https://www.bundestag.de/en/visittheBundestag/dome/registration-245686
