I was walking through Melbourne Central in the CBD recently and found this little gem.
It is probably the smallest library I have ever seen. The Little Library has a mission to ‘promote literacy and the love of reading’ by using the library as a book exchange. People can take a book and hopefully drop another one off.
Little finds like this one keep me happy to have endless wanders around new places. I’m looking forward to finding more cool things like this for sure in the upcoming months.

I like to think both. But it is certainly the biggest book exchange I have seen. Funny how the perspective changes!

I saw a village library in southwestern England that was housed in what had been the telephone box.

Haha that’s interesting. I think it’s a good use of the telephone boxes that are pretty much not required anymore. It will be interesting to see what they all get used for… I am sure I heard there was the possibility of adding defibrillators into them, but that might have just been a rumour.

There is an even smaller one in Windsor Great Park, England, where an old red telephone booth has been turned into a similar library. You take a book, you can leave one. An honesty system that seems to work quite well.

The Little Library was a brilliant idea. We have seen (and traded books within) the tiny kiosks all over the U.S. during our travels.

In my town, we have these curbside repositories called “mini-libraries” or “Little Free Libraries.” They’re boxes with glass doors, where you leave a book and/or take a book.

I think so too. In my community, I’ve seen them adding a slot below the book box for donations to our local food pantry as well.

I’ve seen a smaller one at the side of the road in Northcote, though it is designed to do the same thing. Just a box containing books and you basically take one, and leave one in return.
