What I’ve noticed over here in the land of the creepy is that these spiders really don’t move all that much. It’s really helped my phobia diminish to the point that I can get up pretty close and get a decent shot. Not too close though.
There was a time when I was walking through a relatives garden late at night in Sydney and I almost walked face first into a web like this. If it wasn’t for my iPhone torch I would have been peeling it off my face frantically like Jim Carrey in The Mask. That’s not a job I want to have before bed.
But saying that I love late night walks and seeing these webs. The spiders are pretty damn impressive and if you keep a look out, they are there and they seem happy to stay there for the shot.
If you want to see them, that is…
Creepy photo eek!

Haha, it does looking at it again… What I love about some of these species is that they have amazing patterns and colours, it makes me appreciate them a little more.

When I do a solo hike I can tell if I’m the first one on the track by the spiderwebs I walk into lol

For me that’s one of the worst feelings in the world, the path I was on was busy so I had no worries about that haha.

Glorious web! Spiders are so incredibly patient, I had one like that in the backyard and she took days to perfect her flycatcher.

Amazing. It seems like it could take forever to make and so fragile when a force comes their way, it’s a shame to see ones that got destroyed somehow.

Yep, one morning I heard a bird snap its beak and she was gone with a big hole left in the web 😦

What type of spider is it? Common garden variety? Not a fan of our white tail. But they are not nice enough to spin a web. Cheers,H

I have no idea to be honest, I wish I did though. Just looked up the White Tail, they don’t look pleasant!

Allowing for the flash, this looks like a Golden Orb Web Spider, the largest spider species found in Brisbane. The female body length is approximately 20mm and they are common in bushes and gardens like mine but are low risk non-toxic. They can spin very large webs, vertical or slightly inclined and often high up 🙂

I encountered a lot of Golden Orbs on the farm, I loved the webs and colours of the spiders. I think it was this species that helped me overcome the phobia and appreciate the species! I wasn’t sure if this was one however but if so, cool!

Ah, Brisbane! You would have huntsman the size of dinner plates? Cheers,H

I have seen them but not the size of dinner plates thankfully! But they are certainly around!

That’s a great photo ! I would’ve loved to take a shot like this ! Spiders are so awesome and hard working creatures . I am glad you didn’t walk face first into it though . I wouldn’t want to do that either -even though I like spiders . Great post and shot !

I am just frustrated it is as blurry as it is, but I like it too 🙂 Thankfully it was a busy footpath so the only webs were in the bushes on the sides of the path, so we were always a good distance away haha.
Thanks for the comments!
