Sydney: Back to where it all began

On the 3rd September 2017 I first walked the harbour. I took in these views for the first time as I got my bearings and looked for work. The constant movement of ferries and cruises meant that each photo was different, even from the exact same angles. So even though I have taken hundreds of shots around here, I couldn’t help but snap some more.

This was the first time I stepped into this restaurant however, City Extra is open 24/7 which is great for Circular Quay and always lively. I used to walk past it everyday on the way to and from work and no matter what shift I was on day or night, it was always serving. So I though my friend and I would try it out for breakfast and it was good.

I had a craving for an IHOP style breakfast with pancakes, as you can see below.

It was strange showing my friend around as I am so new to the country myself but it is a great feeling to do so. We walked up to the Opera House and around The Rocks before taking the ferry to Manly.

There was no dust in sight despite the flight delay, but we did have a lot of cloud. It was strange to leave Brisbane and need to wear a jacket outside, there really is a huge contrast between the weather in New South Wales and Queensland right now. Sydney was a nice break from the humidity we have been getting up in Brissy, although I know it isn’t that bad just yet.

We were only in Manly for a brief moment, as my manager whilst in Sydney messaged me to say she had just finished work and would love a catch up. It was great to see her again, as well as some of the team that I sadly had to leave due to Working Holiday restrictions. What I also loved was that my hospitality discount that I got for working on Circular Quay still counted! I really like the idea of fellow hospitality workers from the hotels, bars and restaurants around having a couple of places to go after work and receive a good deal of food and drink. It is great for the venues that do it too. We made the most of it, that’s for sure.

And this was the first day of being back in Sydney. Day two, back to the Blue Mountains before two more days exploring Sydney. And I will be back here in January to do it all again with my mum and sister too! Thankfully it doesn’t get boring here.

  1. Aaah, I love Sydney!! I haven’t visited it properly for years, when I do go to Australia, if I fly into Sydney, the most I see is Central station before catching a train to Newcastle! I really want to spend some time there again though, I want to wander down to the opera house and watch the world go by on the harbour! Have a fantastic time there showing everyone around 🙂

    1. I have done the train to Newcastle, a really nice city and a lot more chilled in comparison! It is going to be great to see Sydney again so soon, hopefully my posts will do for now until you’re back there yourself 🙂

    1. I do like my bacon a little crispy… I noticed when I was in the States that they prefer crispy bacon and British and Australians prefer it much less so. But crispy is gooooood.
