What if God was a politician?

“I once saw a politician walking a dog, and I thought, “How absurd—an animal walking an animal.” Then I thought, “If given the choice, I’d rather vote for the dog.”

It is true to say very few politicians are free from ridicule, it is almost certain for anyone in this profession to be met with criticism of some kind. Whether on social media, a popular panel show, stand up comedy, it happens.
And a high number of those that give politicians a tough ride have a belief of some sort, ironically.

I guess it is better to be hesitant of a person in power until they prove their worth than blindly support a potential dictator. Even if the latter was true, there may be little that we could do to prevent it. But why is it that we have one standard for politics and one for religion? I will make it clearer.

Starting in 1933, up to one million German men were targeted by the Nazi campaign against homosexuality. Carrying a “degeneracy” that threatened the “disciplined masculinity” of Germany. Roughly 100,000 men were arrested, 50,000 men served prison terms as convicted homosexuals, while an unknown number were institutionalized in mental hospitals. ‘Analyses of fragmentary records suggest that between 5,000 and 15,000 homosexual men were imprisoned in concentration camps, where many died from starvation, disease, exhaustion, beatings, and murder.’ (1)

If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads…
Leviticus 20:13

The difference between Nazi German ideology and this verse from Leviticus?

Please? Someone?!

One was such a horrific historical event that to this day we ensure tributes are paid to fallen soldiers, bravely contributing to the ending of such prejudice. The other, is text in a book that over one billion people still pay tributes to. Tributes paid every Sunday.

Silly right?

‘I would rather be a rebel than a slave’, Emmiline Pankhurst once said, as I move swiftly from one evil holding the world back to another. However for many this fell on deaf ears. The religious beliefs held by the suffragettes may have varied, however during this period 37 million Britons believed in God (2), half of this percentage (probably) being women. Even to this day Saudi Arabians, although equality is improving, still suffer such lack of gender parity. Ranked 127 out of 136 countries according to the Global Gender Gap Report from the World Economic Forum, although an increase from 130th in 2009. A map of each country and its ratings can be seen in source 3, with Iceland taking the top spot of gender equality. The United Kingdom currently being in 18th Place, the States 22nd. Yemen, shamefully, bottom.

Now who likes hearing this? No one does, at least the moral majority do not. Certain world leaders do, that’s a given, and we are quick to discredit them.

On the flip side, those nations in the top spot do still practice faith, some more than others. I am not going to suggest any correllation between the rankings and populations that are of the highest faith, not in this post anyway. But I am sure that most nations are wanting equality, sharing the same four or five most widely practiced belief systems.

Belief systems containing verses like 1 Timothy 2:11-12 stating,

Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent.

Or Surah 4.34

Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them.

Basically, harsh laws and harsher punishments that wouldn’t sound out of place in a media update on North Korea. And no one wants to live in North Korea.

Forbes has produced (amongst many other sites just a google away) a compiled list of the worst dictators to ever live. Go give them a look. It is a simple and easy way to gain access and information of the most brutal leaders we have had the misfortune to share the borders with. Then, look at what they believed. Look at who they discriminated against, finally, look at the punishments for said supposed ‘crimes’.

Many are similar to what we see in religion and religions practiced today. Practiced by those who condem similar ideology of certain governments but let it slide in religion, simply because it is hushed up more.

Why is it we condemn any wrongdoings by the government, yet let it slide within religion?!

What would you do if your nations leaders brought back every religious law for men and for women accordingly, as well as punishments for not abiding by such laws?

It may be only in such a scenario that we truly comprehend what and who we are choosing to worship.
